LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies in Lancaster County are looking for a man who they are calling armed and dangerous. They believe Keishawn McManus killed his girlfriend last month, then made it look like a suicide.
McManus lived with his girlfriend, Quatavia Robinson, 19, at his mother's home on Clyburn Drive off Highway 9. Neighbor Rickey Horton remembers the day of the incident, Dec. 23.
"I was here, but I didn't hear any gunshot or any sirens or nothing. Then cop cars were just all over here," Horton told Channel 9 Wednesday.
He walked over to the house, and said he heard family members talking as though they thought it might be murder and not suicide.
That same day deputies spoke to McManus, who told them Robinson had killed herself. However, deputies said his story started to unravel after further investigation, including the autopsy results. McManus eventually disappeared.
"He was cooperative with us, up until the whole thing stopped making sense," said Lancaster Sheriff's Maj. Matt Shaw. "We want to hear from anyone who knows where he is."
Horton told Channel 9 that McManus had lived next door to him with his mother for several years. He'd often had him over to his home to play pool.
"He's a quiet guy. You don't expect it from someone like that. Especially a next door neighbor," Horton said.
However, McManus' past isn't so quiet.
He and another man were charged in the 2012 murder of Timothy Wissinger, in what deputies said was a drug deal on Lamplight Road. Wissinger was shot, his truck driven into a tree. McManus was out on bond awaiting trial in that case. Court records show his bond was set at $50,000.
Channel 9 asked investigators what they believe McManus did to make the crime scene at his home look like a suicide. They would not discuss those details, citing the ongoing investigation.
If you know anything about the location of McManus, you're asked to call Crimestoppers of South Carolina at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
