Family, colleagues of fallen Concord police officer head to DC to honor legacy

WASHINGTON — The family of fallen Concord police officer Jason Shuping joined other members of law enforcement in Washington D.C. on Thursday to honor his legacy.

Channel 9 anchor Susanna Black was heading to the nation’s capital, joining officers from the Concord Police Department as well as Shuping’s family as they remember him during National Police Week.

National Police Week traditionally takes place in May but was postponed this year due to the pandemic.

It’s a time to pay special recognition to those law enforcement officers who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Shuping was shot and killed by a carjacker last December. He was 25. The officer will be one of those honored Thursday evening during a candlelight vigil, and then on Saturday during a memorial service.

>> Susanna was there for it all and has a full report from Washington in the video at the top of the page.
