CONCORD, N.C. — A Concord man faces several charges, including DWI, after a head-on crash over the weekend left a family of five seriously injured.
Police said 30-year-old Andrew Mathews was heading north on Warren C. Coleman Boulevard, or Highway 601, near Main Street just before 10 p.m. on Saturday when he crossed the centerline and hit a Jeep going the other way.

According to police, Mathews then corrected his vehicle but again crossed the centerline and hit a Nissan head-on.
Two adults and three children in the Nissan suffered severe injuries and one had to be flown to a trauma center for treatment. As of Thursday, four of the family members remained hospitalized.
Mathews was also seriously hurt in the crash, police said. After being released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, four counts of felony serious injury by vehicle and possession of heroin.
He is currently in the Cabarrus County Jail under $150,000 bail.
The people in the Jeep were not seriously hurt, according to officials.
