Lime issues global recall for one of its electric scooter models

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lime has issued a global recall of one of its electric scooter models because they can break apart while someone is riding one.

The company has not released information regarding how many scooters may be affected or what cities the scooters may be in.

The Washington Post uncovered the mass recall. The Post traced the models back to a Chinese manufacturing company called Okai.

As of Monday morning, Lime has not said how many of Charlotte's 400 scooters, if any, are impacted.

An independent contractor who charges Lime scooters told the Washington Post overnight he tried warning the company about the broken scooters back in September, but he never got a response.

Monday, Lime said the defective scooters are being replaced with new, advanced scooters that are considered best in class for safety.

They are trying to replace the recalled scooters with new scooters immediately so service is not distrupted.
