Local apartment developer buys land near South End for next project

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-based multifamily subsidiary of national homebuilder Lennar Corp. will soon begin work on its next Queen City project.

LMC last month purchased 5.7 acres at Verbena and Gilead streets, behind Lower Left Brewing Co., for $8.8 million, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records. The site, which includes 213 Verbena St., today contains industrial buildings.

Jeff Harris, Carolinas division president at LMC, said the firm will develop a 273-unit apartment development at the site.
