Officers were investigating two different crime scenes following the shooting, which happened around 2:40 a.m. on Central Avenue, near Pint Central, a bar where the victim worked.

Investigators told Channel 9 two men got into an argument and shots were fired, with the bar worker being struck by the gunfire.

Channel 9 was the first local station on the scene and watched as an ambulance drove off with the victim.

Police said the suspect, James Simmons, was taken into custody on Carter Avenue, off Statesville Road in north Charlotte a short time later.

Investigators said a witness helped them track down the suspect's vehicle.

Officers told Channel 9 that the victim and shooter did not know each other.
