GASTONIA, N.C. — Police said a man who had been shot was involved in a car accident in Gastonia on Thursday morning.
Witnesses told Channel 9 a driver, who was transporting the man with the gunshot wound to the hospital, ran a red light and the car was hit by another vehicle on York Road near West Franklin Road.
The other car involved was driven by a father who had his three-year-old son with him at the time. They were not hurt.
Witnesses said it appeared the man who was shot was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
"I was the first one to go and get to (the shooting victim,)" witness Samuel Dudley said.
Dudley saw the crash happen and approached the car.
"He was pretty out of it,” Dudley said. “I was trying to get out of the car. I told him to stay in the car because his side was jammed."
Police took a baseball bat and gun from the vehicle as evidence.
No other details have been released.
