CHARLOTTE — A driver has been charged after a crash left a man dead in Ballantyne Saturday afternoon, police said.
Authorities responded to the two-vehicle crash at around 4:12 p.m. on Johnston Road near North Community House Road.
Investigators said the driver of a Chevrolet, Ryan Thomas Minch, 46, was speeding northbound on Johnston Road when he lost control of the vehicle and went over a median. The vehicle then collided head-on with a Toyota traveling in the southbound lanes.
The driver of the Toyota, Gustavo Leobardo Lopez-Cuarez, 38, died at the scene, according to officials.
Officers determined Minch was impaired at the time of the crash. Once he was released from the hospital, he was charged with felony death by vehicle, DWI, reckless driving and open container of alcoholic beverage.
