Motorcyclists lead deputies on high-speed chase in Locust

LOCUST, N.C. — Locust police said motorcyclists led them on a high-speed chase down North Carolina 200 in Locust Sunday.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol responded when troopers said they were dispatched to a wreck investigation involving a sheriff’s deputy’s car.

Highway Patrol troopers weren’t involved in the chase.

The chase started at 1:45 p.m. when one motorcyclist turned onto NC 24, police said. They pursued the driver but lost track of him.

One of the motorcyclists turned off onto NC 200 South. A deputy with the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office was following the motorcyclist on NC 200.

Another deputy was traveling on NC 200 attending to an unrelated call when the driver passed the deputy he activated his lights and sirens.

The motorcycle being pursued on NC 200 came up behind the officer, couldn't go around on the passing side due to traffic, and tried to pass the deputy on right, according to the report.

The driver of the motorcycle was ejected from his bike but was not hurt. EMS responded, but the driver refused treatment.

The driver of the motorcycle, Daniel Marshall, 22, was arrested and faces multiple charges Sunday, including speeding to elude officers.

Authorities contacted the other motorcyclist when the arrested driver called his phone.

The motorcyclist who got away came back and turned himself in, according to officials.

His name has not been released.
