DURHAM, N.C. — Police are searching for a masked intruder who held a family of four at gunpoint and forced them to zip-tie each other.
The intruder was caught on surveillance walking through the backyard before breaking-in through the back door.
The intruder then ransacked the home and took off with $35,000 cash.
Deputies found the family in the back bedroom of their home in Durham, N.C. last month. The father, mother, and 15-year-old daughter were bound with zip-ties.
The 7-year-old was not restrained, but was nearby.
The family said they had $35,000 in cash inside their home from a home they sold a few years ago.
A neighbor, Willie Mae Ellison, said she did not understand why they kept so much money in the home.
“It’s just strange,” Ellison said. “It’s hard to believe that people would keep that much money in the house. I don’t want nobody know I got that.”
The parents said they were not sure if someone knew they had the money in their home.
