ASHEBORO, N.C. — The North Carolina Zoo has announced the name of its second southern white rhino calf.
Bonnie was born on July 13 to father Stormy and mother Kit, just 11 days after her half-sister Nandi.

Officials say zookeepers recommended the name Bonnie in honor of longtime zoo donors and supporters they hold in high esteem.
Half-sister Nandi was born on July 2 and was the first white rhino born at the zoo in 41 years.
The zoo has seven members of the southern white rhino herd living in the public habitat including Stormy, females Linda, Kit, Natalie, and Abby, and calves Nandi and Bonnie.
In addition to these seven, the zoo has two other rhinos living in a retirement habitat that is not in public view.
The rhinos can be seen in their habitat at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro.
