CHARLOTTE — The North Carolina Department of Transportation has stopped building new electric vehicle charging stations across the state as officials wait for guidance from the Trump Administration’s new Secretary of Transportation.
Currently, nine EV charging stations are under construction in North Carolina, and work on these will continue. However, the state won’t progress on its plan to build chargers across the Tar Heel State.
North Carolina received $109 million for EV infrastructure under the Biden administration. The money is intended to expand the state’s charging network.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says he wants to review the policies surrounding the grant money before issuing updated guidelines.
