New minimally invasive surgery could help prevent aneurysms

CHARLOTTE — There is a new, minimally invasive surgery in Charlotte that helps prevent aortic aneurysms.

The procedure is a lot easier on the body and allows patients to leave the hospital the following day.

An aorta aneurysm is when the wall inside a major blood vessel is enlarged.

“And just like a balloon gets too big, it will reach its bursting potential, and it’s going to pop,” said Dr. Ashish Jain, a vascular surgeon for Novant Health.
