North Meck High School students crossing 4-lane highway to get to class

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Channel 9 is investigating more crossing concerns near a local high school.

Reporter Gina Esposito investigated complaints last month about dangerous driving during student drop-offs outside of Mallard Creek High School.

A parent saw that report and reached out about similar issues near North Mecklenburg High School, where Gina learned that hundreds of students are crossing a four-lane highway to get to class.

The students have to cross Highway 115 to get to the school. A “do not cross” sign is posted, but it is ignored.

Huntersville police told Channel 9 this has been an ongoing issue they’ve been trying to address.

>> In the video at the top of this page, Gina speaks with parents about their concerns and asks if something can be done about the issue.
