Opening statements given in Phylicia Barnes case

BALTIMORE — Prosecutors plan to call a surprise witness in the trial of a man charged with killing a Monroe teenager.

In opening statements Friday, they said jurors would hear from a man who saw Phylicia Barnes' body on a bed in Michael Johnson's apartment the day she disappeared.

The defense dismissed that witness as a jailhouse snitch.

Johnson is charged with killing Barnes while she was visiting family in Baltimore. Her body was found months later in a river.
