CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers stopped drivers at an overnight checkpoint as part of its "Spring Alive" initiative.
Officers were looking for drunk or impaired drivers along North Tryon Street, and had set up a mobile breath testing bus at the checkpoint, which lasted nearly four hours.
Police arrested six people for DWI, and warned others to avoid distractions while driving.
“Often times we stop vehicles that are showing signs of impairment as they're going down the road, and when we stop them and approach the vehicles, it turns out they were distracted by something in the car such as a cell phone,” said Sgt. Jesse Wood.
Officers also charged 19 people for driving without a license, and a dozen more for having a suspended license.
