COLORADO — The Carolina Panthers tweeted out two videos Wednesday highlighting star running back Christian McCaffrey’s rescue mission in Colorado earlier this year.
McCaffrey called police and stayed with a 72-year-old hiker who had fallen 20 feet onto a rock while hiking along a trail.
Dan Smoker Sr. was seriously hurt after the fall. He was taken to the hospital with a broken femur, a broken pelvis, internal bleeding, bleeding on the brain, nine fractured ribs and a broken neck.
Smoker said it’s been a long recovery but he’s doing better, even walking without a cane at times.

The Panthers sent the family a care package and invited them to attend a game this fall between the Panthers and the Cincinnati Bengals.
