The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said officers responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon at the Autumn Park Apartments near Digital Drive off IBM Drive.
Residents told Channel 9 that just before 1 p.m., they heard gunshots coming from outside and screams for help.
CMPD later said a 32-year-old woman and 28-year-old man were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot by two men. The 28-year-old man was shot during the robbery and taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officers had the neighborhood blocked off for hours as they pieced together the details of the shooting.
Residents said they aren't surprised the shooting happened, but when Channel 9 did a crime map of the area, there were only nonviolent crimes reported within half-mile of the complex.
No arrests have been made and CMPD said they have not identified the suspects.
