CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives investigated a homicide Saturday night in the Grier Heights neighborhood.
Police said the victim, Nakia Cousart , was shot inside a car on Zircon Street around 7 p.m. They believe the shooting may have been drug-related.
It happened as hundreds of people gathered nearby for a barbecue.
Police have not made any arrests.
Detectives said a possible suspect vehicle was seen fleeing the scene. The vehicle is described as a blue SUV, possible a Ford model.
The shooting is the third such incident in the Grier Heights neighborhood in the last few weeks.
Last Saturday, Torey Williams was shot in the neck on Burkland Drive. That came just hours after a vigil for Ronald Martin, who was shot and killed in the same neighborhood a few days earlier.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS.
