CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said a man who crashed along Interstate 77 in north Charlotte Friday morning tried to lie about the accident.

Officers said witnesses watched the man crash his vehicle and then run into the woods.
Police said he then ran to a hotel on Smiths Corner Boulevard, where he told workers and officers that he’d been robbed and assaulted.

He had to be rushed to the hospital for his injuries.
Police said they determined the man’s story was a lie after their investigation. They believe he made it all up to avoid getting into trouble.
Police said his crashed vehicle led to at least one other accident involving a fire truck that was responding to the incident.
