CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 130 murder cases from over the years in Charlotte remain unsolved.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s cold case unit is refusing to give up.
Police still haven’t solved Gregory Goodson’s death. He was 16 years old, and a junior at North Mecklenburg High School, when his body was found 13 years ago.
“When Gregory died, it was the darkest day of my life,” said Kyle Goodson, Gregory Goodson’s mother.
Gregory Goodson’s body was found in the woods in northwest Charlotte.

“He was found a long way from where he was in school, so someone transported him there,” Sgt. Darrell Price, with CMPD, said.
Goodson’s case is one of three Price highlighted as police push for answers in some of their toughest cold case mysteries.

Other cold cases that remain unsolved are the murder of 7-year-old Kevin Rodas, who was shot and killed at a birthday party 3 1/2 years ago, and Kelly Owens, a young mother murdered in her apartment two days after Christmas in 2007.
Price announced that they have finally filed charges in the murder of Yulanda Hoey, a young mother who was killed 28 years ago.

Still, there are dozens of cases police need to crack, and families still waiting for answers.
“We don't archive cases, when we think, ‘hey, we can't solve it,’” Price said. “We don't stick it in a dusty warehouse. We keep it. We keep working it.”
