MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A body was recovered from Lake Norman Tuesday night, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Officials said they're investigating the death as a drowning.
Emergency crews responded to the scene off Williamson Road near Eddie's on the Lake in Mooresville around 4 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about someone in distress in the water.
Deputy J. Church was first one the scene and began searching the area for anyone in or near the water. Other deputies searched a nearby footpath and the edge of the water.
Church used the Iredell County Sheriff's Office Lake Patrol Boat to use sonar to search the lake bottom in the area. Deputies said they were able to communicate with witnesses to identify the location.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene as crews used a drone in the search.
Crews were able to locate a man's body through the use of sonar.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said they also located an abandoned silver Honda Odyssey nearby. Detectives investigated the vehicle and conducted interviews.
Authorities said the man who died was 45-years-old but have not released his name.
The Charlotte Fire Department's dive team responded to help as well.
No foul play is suspected and the investigation is ongoing.
