Report looks into state of bridges in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two bridges on Interstate 277 are among the most traveled bridges that were considered structurally deficient, according to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.

The group looked at more than 600,000 bridges nationwide and deemed 47,000 are structurally deficient.

North Carolina ranked 12th for its high number of structurally deficient bridges. South Carolina was No. 21 on the list.

Some of the most traveled bridges that were structurally deficient in the state are on I-277, including ones over North College and North Brevard streets.

About 86,000 drivers travel on those bridges each day.

Structurally deficient bridges are still considered safe. They just require some sort of maintenance.
