Catawba River flood victims meet with lawyers over perceived lack of aid

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Victims of devastating flash flooding in northwest Mecklenburg County met with lawyers Wednesday night, as many grow increasingly frustrated with how the cleanup is being handled.

Nearly 100 homes were damaged this month when the Catawba River flooded over Riverside Drive.

Many say the neighborhood has been forgotten, adding that their calls for help from response teams are being ignored.

“I just want Duke Power to know that this is their fault and they need to do something to reimburse the people down there,” resident Sandra Thompson told Channel 9.

Mecklenburg County officials responded to the criticism, and said they’re operating a disaster recovery center where officials are available to answer questions about repairs, permits and assistance.

County officials also said residents in need of shelter can call 211 to make those arrangements.
