CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers continue investigating two shootings in Charlotte that happened in the same division, just hours apart on Sunday.
Police responded to two shootings within hours a few miles apart from each other.
One person died at the first shooting at the Hilrock Estates apartment complex off Eastway Drive.
CMPD went to the scene for an assault with a deadly weapon call around 1:30 p.m.
Police told Channel 9 they found a man shot dead when they arrived.
K-9 units searched for a suspect but there is no word on arrest at this time.
The second shooting happened two hours later on Central Avenue.
One person was seriously injured and hospitalized with life-threatening injuries around 3:30 p.m., MEDIC told Channel 9.
For people in east Charlotte, the string of violent crime is top of mind.
“I’m originally from Raleigh so I see things a little different,” said Mohmamad Abdallah, a resident of the area near the shootings. “At home in Raleigh, it’s always been bad but not this bad.”
“I think I think about my safety about as much as anyone else does who lives in the area, I think obviously in every city there is gonna be pockets that are a little more unsafe than others,” said David Bock, also a resident.
Police have not released the names of either victim.
