CHARLOTTE — South End remains a popular spot for new restaurants, which likely doesn’t come as much of a surprise to many Charlotteans, as that neighborhood is awash with development.
Upcoming culinary additions in South End include the new home of breakfast-focused concept Uptown Yolk as well as a new venture for Reid’s Fine Foods called Salted Melon Market & Eatery, which will feature a health-centric market and fast-causal restaurant.

Opening sooner is Resident Culture Brewing Co.’s second Charlotte location, which is now wrapping up renovations at an old, 17,000-square-foot bus maintenance facility in South End’s Gold District.
But the shuttering of GoodRoad CiderWorks’ 8,200-square-foot location at 117 Southside Drive, due in part to the Covid-19 pandemic, shows that despite its bustle, the neighborhood isn’t immune to obstacles.
And new development is causing another establishment on the edge of South End to move out. The Midnight Diner — a staple at 115 E. Carson Blvd. since September 2011 — will be relocating next year to make way for a recently announced multi-tower, mixed-use project. Changes are on the way for Tyber Creek Pub, too, which is planning a revamp at its current site that it’ll share in the future with a high-rise apartment building.
