South Carolina schools point to benefits of modified calendar

CLOVER, S.C. — Several local school districts in South Carolina are implementing a new modified calendar this school year, with classes starting a week earlier than usual.

York District One, Clover Schools, and Chester and Chesterfield counties all switched to a modified calendar. Some teachers say the switch will help their students.

“The kids are so stimulated all the time,” said Wendy Howell, a seventh-grade science teacher in Clover. “I don’t think their brains ever shut off; kids need to relax, adults need to relax.”

In the video at the top of this page, see the differences of the modified calendar, and why school leaders say there are many benefits.
