CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have caught someone who was stealing from Charlotte firefighters while they responded to emergency calls.
The following stations were targeted:
- Station 33 at 2001 Mt. Holly Huntersville Road
- Station 28 at 8031 Old Statesville Road.
- Station 13 at 4337 Glenwood Drive.
The thieves took everything, including guns, an iPad and a purse, according to reports.
Some of those guns were recovered when police arrested a Zacharias Lee Monday morning.
Firefighters said they aren't sure if they were answering calls when their personal cars were targeted.
The vehicles were in secure lots and behind locked fences, but that wasn't enough to stop thieves.
Police are looking for others they believe were working with Lee.
Fire officials believe the vehicles were broken into early Sunday morning as firefighters completed their 24-hour shifts.
"I'd tell them right now, leave it alone because it don't belong to you," resident Roger Robinson said.
Some of the vehicles were not locked.
It's not the first time this has happened to Charlotte firefighters.
Last year, windows were smashed and items were taken from firefighters' personal vehicles as well.
The city installed security cameras at all of the departments’ parking lots.
