GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — The southbound lanes of Interstate 85 in Gaston County have reopened following two crashes, including one involving a tractor-trailer, officials said.
According to the Highway Patrol, the initial crash happened around 5 a.m. in the southbound lanes near exit 23, prior to McAdenville.
The second crash happened a short time later.
Troopers said Kemonnie Eason was driving a stolen car headed south on I-85 when he decided to turn around and head north. While trying to turn around, troopers said Eason hit the median wall and a tractor-trailer, disabling both vehicles and blocking the interstate.

Emergency crews told Channel 9 one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Traffic was backed up for miles in the southbound lanes and onlooker delays were causing problems northbound as well.
Troopers said Eason was arrested and will be charged with driving while impaired, driving the wrong way, possession of a stolen vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
