US attorney in Charlotte to help fight opioid epidemic with 'Drug Take Back Day'

NORTH CAROLINA — Saturday is "Drug Take Back Day," which means it is time to go through your medicine cabinet and toss out anything that is old.

While many people think it is safe to keep unused prescription drugs at home, officials said they can still get into the wrong hands.

"We have more people dying by drugs in this country than by vehicular accidents," U.S. attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Andrew Murray said.

This is why they said they are asking people to drop off these items in boxes at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Headquarters this weekend.

Watch the video above as Channel 9's Gina Esposito talks to our local U.S. attorney, who said his office is taking a hard look at the people responsible for spreading the drugs.
