The meteor was so visible, a Rowan County dispatcher told Channel 9 they got a call from someone thinking a plane had gone down.

According to the AMS, the meteor was traveling from north to south and ended up in the Atlantic Ocean in front of Bethany Beach, Delaware.

A driver in the Washington D.C. area caught the huge space rock on their dash cam.

Officials said the annual Lyrid meteor shower, which started Tuesday and is expected to peak early next week, often brings fireballs to the skies.
