Wind to blame for trees crashing through homes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — High winds are to blame for a trees falling onto homes around the Charlotte area late Wednesday and early Thursday.

Nobody was hurt after a tree crashed onto a house on Elder Ave. in southeast Charlotte late Wednesday night. The house was not badly damaged.

A large tree also blew over onto a home on 7th Avenue Southeast in Hickory Wednesday night. Nobody was hurt in the house.

Wind was also the culprit after a tree fell onto a house in Matthews early Thursday morning.

The tree smashed through the roof and into the bedroom of the house on Lakeview Circle off Sam Newell Road.

The homeowner said it happened while he was sleeping but he was able to get out safely and with no injuries.

The fire department was on scene making sure everything is safe.
