Young inventors compete in robotic challenges

CONCORD, N.C. — The next generation of young inventors got the chance to show off their custom-built robots on Saturday.

More than 140 elementary school VEX IQ Competition students and mentors across the state competed at Harold E. Winkler Middle School in Concord for the state championship.

There were 36 teams that faced off in a series of robotic challenges

“It’s basically where we build robots and program them, as well,” said Ella, a finalist at the competition. “And we run them in a field and dump the dispensers and just get as many points as we can.”
