Jasmine Paredes not only excels in the classroom, she is helping others this holiday season.

She got the scholarship with encouragement from her Communities in Schools coordinator, Kamiyah Jones.

“It's surprising and kind of nerve-racking, because I know now that I need to stay on my game, but I love it that she introduced it to me, so I can accomplish way more than I would've ever thought.

Jasmine's artwork was also chosen for this year's Communities in Schools Christmas card.

Sales help fund the nonprofit, so its caseworkers can provide services to students at 47 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

“People can actually donate any amount they prefer and then send it to their loved one with a special message and then on the back of the card, which is awesome, it has some info about CIS,” said Kamiya Jones, CIS.
