Action 9 helps grandmother get new lawnmower

LANCASTER, S.C. — Lancaster resident Yvette Williams is 72 years old and cuts her own grass.

She also cuts her daughter's grass because her daughter has health problems. "I'm pretty strong," she said.

Williams said she bought her lawn mower in August 2016 and that it worked for just 18 months. "The pull cord wouldn't start," she showed Action 9. "See it won't even draw now. That's as far as it would come out." She added, "You pay $325 for something, you expect it to last more than a year and a half."

She bought it from Sears. "I carry it to the Sears and they says take it to our dealership." She said that dealership sent her to another place and, then, another.

"Take it here, take it there, take it wherever," she said. "I said, 'I'm sorry, that lawn mower's got more road miles than it's got yard miles.'"

She felt she was getting the runaround and contacted Action 9. "I'm not an old person. I'm a wise person," she said. "I'm the kind that don't take no for an answer."

Action 9 got in touch with Sears. It's not clear what the issue was or why it wasn't resolved right away. But Sears offered to give Williams a new mower and she accepted the offer.

"I would not have gotten anywhere if you had not stepped in," she told Action 9.
