CMPD file

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte Mecklenburg police arrested a man for attempting to break into cars and firing shots at the victims early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to a call concerning car break-ins at the 2700 block of Milton Road at about 3:45 a.m. They arrested Damarion Caldwell and charged him with two counts of felony larceny, four counts of breaking and entering an automobile, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and assault by pointing a gun.

Victims said Caldwell was attempting to break into cars in an apartment complex parking lot and steal items inside. Residents told police they confronted Caldwell and he fired gunshots in their direction.

Detectives interviewed Caldwell and determined that he had stolen items inside the cars including firearms.

Caldwell has a criminal history in Charlotte and the surrounding areas that include charges of robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of stolen weapons, according to CMPD.

CMPD advised Charlotte residents to be careful what they leave in their cars to prevent break-ins.

“Let this case serve as a reminder…if you leave valuables, more specifically a firearm in your vehicle, you could be arming a criminal for their next violent crime!” CMPD News said in an X post.
