CMPD desperate to find suspects connected with string of overnight robberies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said they are desperate to find the suspects who they said may be connected to at least five separate robberies across Charlotte overnight.

Detectives said four of the crimes happened within a 90-minute window.

Channel 9 was with investigators Tuesday morning at the 7-Eleven on Tyvola Road, which was the last business hit during the crime spree.

Police said it was robbed about 5:15 a.m. By then, the suspects had already robbed at least two other convenience stores.

The first was a Circle K on Selwyn Avenue in Myers Park. The clerk there told police that two suspects came in and robbed the store just before 2 a.m.

She said both suspects had handguns, and took cigarettes and cash.

The next robbery happened around 4:30 a.m. at a 7-Eleven on Clinton Road. The store manager at that store told Channel 9 there was only one suspect, armed with a gun.

He also took cash and Newport cigarettes -- the same brand of cigarettes stolen from the Circle K.

The manager said the clerk who was on duty was not injured and the store was back open for business Tuesday morning.

Police are looking at surveillance video and pictures from at least one of the stores and may release images and more details later Tuesday afternoon.
