CHARLOTTE — Daimler Truck North America is searching for a location for a new manufacturing plant in the Carolinas, with the company saying it hopes to break ground on the facility later this year.
The company has not yet announced where the new plant will be located. Daimler Truck currently operates plants in Gastonia, Mount Holly and Cleveland, North Carolina, along with an administrative office in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
The new facility has a targeted opening date of 2029, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
The announcement comes after Daimler Truck workers reached a new contract agreement with the company in 2024.
The deal included 25% raises over four years for roughly 7,300 employees, many of whom work in North Carolina.
Workers had threatened to strike if an agreement could not be reached. The contract also included cost-of-living allowances and profit-sharing provisions.
Daimler Truck has not yet provided additional details about the size or location of the proposed new plant.
