Officials took the suspect into custody Wednesday afternoon. Our news partners at the Morganton News Herald were at the station when deputies brought in the suspect.

The News Herald sent a video of the suspect to Channel 9's Dave Faherty.

He can be heard on the video saying, "When did it become okay for a man not to be able to protect his kids from drugs and drug abusers and people trying to kill them?"

A reporter on scene asked what the suspect thought about being arrested, the suspect responded, "You got to take care of your family one way or another. You got to protect yourself."

Officials said Barns is being held in the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility without bond.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
