CHARLOTTE — Channel 9 was at the NASCAR Hall of Fame where the plane crash that killed Greg Biffle and six others continues to take an emotional toll on fans.
We saw people visiting Greg Biffle’s plaque on the Walk of Fame in Mooresville and visiting the crash site at Statesville Regional Airport.
On Saturday the National Transportation Safety Board gave their final local press conference on the accident. Officials confirmed that a text message was sent by a passenger to a family member prior to the accident.
It simply stated, “Emergency landing.”

Officials are also very close to confirming who was flying the plane at the time of the accident.
“At this point we have a lot of really good information and we’re fairly confident with at least the left seat occupant, but we need to verify that,” said 45th Member of the NTSB, Michael Graham. “We need to be accurate in what we do. We want to know where everybody was sitting.”
NTSB officials did say that both engines were given a preliminary examination. They will be relocated along with the rest of the aircraft. In the next few days, the agency will hand control of the facility back to the airport.
