CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A family is safe after a fire destroyed their Salisbury home early Tuesday morning.

The Salisbury Fire Department was called to the house on Grove Street around 12:30 a.m.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, the house was already charred and plumes of smoke could be seen coming from a front window.
According to fire officials, crews were able to quickly contain the fire.
Authorities said the people who lived inside the home made it out safely but lost a cat and a dog in the fire.
There's no word on what caused the fire at this point.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
