Family seeking answers after man seriously hurt by suspect fleeing police

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Marques Wright’s family members said he has broken bones all over his body and is in critical condition.

Wright was seriously hurt after a suspect fleeing the police hit a parked car that struck Wright as he was standing by the door of a Toyota.

Wright’s family has expressed frustration at the lack of justice in connection with the collision.

Channel 9′s Tina Terry spoke with the family as they plead for answers.

The family said they live hundreds of miles away in Georgia and are saddened that the driver who hit their loved one has still not been charged.

According to reports, 41-year-old Wright was standing on Walnut Street, talking to someone he knew early on the morning of March 6. As he was speaking, 20-year-old Chandler Ward crashed into Wright and another car.

“It was hard because we didn’t know his state,” Candice Ingram, Wright’s sister, said. “We were just concerned for his well-being, and was he going to make it, because they couldn’t tell us.”

Ingram and other family members who live in Georgia said they are still in shock over what happened.

“We were just in shock, just devastated, that this could even happen, really,” Keirdre Wright, Marques’ other sister, said.

“He’s lying in bed lifeless,” Vicky Wright, Marques’ mother, said. “Bruises from his head to his toes. Neck broken. Back broken. Both legs broken. Ribs broken.”

According to reports, Ward and Daryl Trabucco got into a fight with another man before shooting the victim on Marshal Street near East Main Street.

Ward and Trabacco then fled the scene in a black Audi before ultimately crashing into Wright.

On Saturday, Ward was taken to jail on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and assault and battery by mob. He was denied bond and released into the custody of the South Carolina Highway Patrol for charges pending with their agency.

Trabucco has been charged with second-degree assault and battery by mob after being released from the hospital, according to reports.

However, Wright’s family members said they are still waiting for Ward and Trabucco to be charged in connection with the collision.

“Where’s the justice for Marques? Sunday will be seven days. Where’s the justice for Marques?” Wright’s mother Vicky said.

Thursday, South Carolina Highway Patrol told Channel 9 that they are investigating the crash. However, we were not able to get in touch with them for comment Friday evening.

The family said they have created a GoFundMe for Marques Wright. You can find that information here.
