Fire damages 1840s-style log cabin in Waxhaw

WAXHAW, N.C. — An 1840s-style log cabin at the Museum of the Waxhaws caught fire Wednesday night.

The fire started around 8 p.m., just off Waxhaw Highway.

The Union County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire was accidental. They say an electrical issue sparked the blaze.

While the fire significantly damaged the historic Secrest Family Cabin, the museum’s director says it will be rebuilt. No other structures at the museum were harmed, and no one was hurt in the fire.
