IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — An Iredell County inmate was charged after an altercation led to two injured detention officers.
Khaleel Mangum has been charged with two counts of felony assault on a person employed at a state or local detention facility.
Deputies said Mangum caused a disturbance in his holding cell Jan. 6.
As officers went to speak to Mangum, he was not compliant with orders, so officers escorted him out of the cell, according to deputies.
Additional officers assisted to subdue Mangum, but during the incident, an officer fractured a bone in his leg and another suffered a thumb injury, deputies said.
Mangum was confined in the detention center on suspicion of violating a domestic violence protective order.
Deputies said he was previously arrested on charges of assault by strangulation and resisting public officer.
