CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A community college in the foothills has cut more than two dozen positions, and enrollment numbers are to blame.
Catawba Valley Community College has cut 27 employees to make up for a $1.3 million budget shortfall.
A dip in enrollment is being blamed for the move.
The Board of Trustees said rising operational costs, expenses and a decline in the regional population also impacted the decision.

The employees will be laid off by Jan. 1, 2023.
Last year, just over 4,000 students attended Catawba Valley Community College. But that was nearly 800 fewer students than during the 2019-2020 school year.
