Local hospitals get high marks on national assessment

Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center is among several Charlotte-area facilities that earned a "Top Hospital" designation from Leapfrog Group.

CHARLOTTE — Nearly a dozen Novant Health facilities, including several in the Charlotte area, earned top marks in a recent analysis from Leapfrog Group.

The Leapfrog Group is a nonprofit that awards “A” through “F” ratings biannually for hospitals nationwide by measuring safety, quality and patient experience. It evaluates how well hospitals prevent procedural errors and infections and looks at how they work toward patient satisfaction.

Nine Novant hospitals achieved A ratings in Leapfrog’s fall 2024 assessment.

The highest-performing A-graded hospitals are then designated annually as “Top Hospitals.” Leapfrog chooses the top hospitals using additional criteria based on specific categorizations — general hospital, teaching hospital, children’s hospital or rural hospital.

In 2024, Leapfrog chose 134 hospitals and 31 ambulatory surgery centers across the country to receive the designation.

Nine North Carolina facilities earned “Top Hospital” designations, including five that are operated by Winston-Salem-based Novant.
