MATTHEWS, N.C. — The town of Matthews will vote on a controversial rezoning request on Monday after months of delays.
Channel 9 followed this story over the summer.
[Matthews commissioners to consider controversial development project at public hearing]
A developer wants to put 13 townhomes on a small piece of land on Trade Street and tear down some of the trees at the entrance of the Greenway.
Community groups formed a strong opposition against it and the vote was delayed.
Channel 9 uncovered the mayor and three other board members have all accepted campaign donations from the developer behind the project.
Commissioners insist their votes will still be fair, but neighbors asked them to recuse themselves from the vote.
