CHARLOTTE — Hundreds more apartments could be headed to Charlotte after separate rezoning filings and approvals last month.
Atrium Health, for instance, filed a rezoning petition in January to develop what site plans show as up to 525 apartments with ground-floor retail space at 720 E. Morehead St. That 3.14-acre site in midtown is about a mile from Atrium’s $1.5 billion medical school and innovation district that will deliver this year.
Elsewhere in Charlotte, developer Childress Klein received city approval last month for its rezoning of Esplanade at SouthPark. It can now redevelop the 16-acre, two-building site off Rexford Road with up to 675 multifamily units and 277,000 square feet of office space.
At The River District, where apartment construction is already underway, single-family residential plans made headway last month. Four homebuilders acquired land there in recent weeks to begin separate projects that will total 129 homes and townhouses at Westrow — the massive west Charlotte development’s town center. One of those builders, Toll Brothers, disclosed plans last month for 63 townhomes there with prices starting in the $500,000s.
Several other residential developments are taking shape in the Lake Norman area.
