LYNCHBURG, Virginia — A Virginia boy will likely remember Monday for the rest of his life after a NASCAR pit crew made a special visit to his house.
The Ganassi Racing crew made the 190-mile trip from Charlotte to Lynchburg in order to surprise Josh Grandeo.
It all started with a photograph that Josh’s teacher took after speaking to her class about what they wanted to do when they grew up.
Josh said he wanted to be a pit crew member. The Ganassi team saw the photo and decided to make the trip.
Josh said he couldn't believe it when the racing team arrived in person.
“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I was like going crazy and stuff,” he said.
Not only did the crew send Josh a recruiting letter to join the team, but they also brought a race car with his name on it and let him help change the tires.
“For them to take time out of their busy schedule to come here and share some time with both our sons has been amazing,” said Josh’s father, Jason Grandeo. “It’s just a wonderful experience we would have never dreamed of.”
Ganassi Racing is working with Josh’s family to get him down to Charlotte so that he can see the shop they work in and learn more about being on a pit crew.
