GASTONIA, N.C. — A can of pepper spray went off on a Gaston County school bus as elementary students were on their way home Wednesday, the Gaston Gazette reported.
The bus driver reported the incident around 3:20 p.m. on Linwood Road in Gastonia.
The students were reportedly on their way home from Pleasant Ridge Elementary School when the bus driver smelled the pepper spray and quickly pulled over so the students could get off, officials said.
Police did not say exactly how many students were on the bus at the time, but Gaston Emergency Medical Services said no students needed medical treatment, and that they are all OK.
Officials do not know how it went off or who brought in on the bus at this point.
Gaston County Schools bans pepper spray on school property, including buses.
No other information has been released.
